Promoting UN Resolution 1325 and UNSCR 2250 to LHPC in Hawijah and Al-Zab/Kekuk

Among the achievements of Hariwan Organization, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration(IOM) in 2022, is that it implemented some initiatives through Lighthouse peace Club, which included repairing some schools and hospitals in order to aid the local community especially to facilitate accessibility of PWDs into public schools and hospitals in Hawijah and Al-Zab/Kirkuk

Strengthening Youth and Women to Build Inclusive Communities through Social
Cohesion in Hawijah and Al Zab Sub-District

The proposed action will help in the reduction of equity and injustice and promote
peace and social cohesion among the community of different gender groups in (Al Zab
Sub-District), by establishing lighthouse peace clubs and build their capacity in a way
that them can operate together with the political, tribal and religious leaders.
Moreover, it will involve the community in a series of awareness activities that will
build trust between the various gender groups and stimulate social cohesion. To build
strong project sustainability livelihood activities will be included in the project to
reduces economical and social discrimination among different groups for better
future in (Al Zab Sub-District)

Protection Integrated Livelihood project in Anbar
  • The idea of this program is to provide protection integrated livelihood to women
    headed household, widows and divorces through educational, recreational activities and capacity-building for vulnerable women in society.
  • Adopt individuals and groups follow up approach for women through followup
    and integrated them into a plan of activities and courses.
  • To enhance their abilities and develop their skills through training, endowing them with skills for discussion and constructive dialog
  • Raise the level of constructive thinking and awareness, to support and empower women in society,

  • Raise women’s awareness about the social and psychological problems they face in their

The project of (Psychosocial Support and Community engagement): From January 2019 – Ongoing.

Implementing the project by Hariwan Organization in partnership with IOM in Shekhan camp. The project is directly benefiting the beneficiaries in the psychosocial and social cohesion aspects, The project has different kinds of activities for all categories focused on providing psychosocial support, providing activities such as Case management, awareness sessions, advocacy, life skills training, recreational activities, education, capacity building, vocational training, self-care program.. etc. The project established in January 2019, The project focuses on providing IDPs with community and family support by participating them in the Centre’s various activities. Throughout the project, The project aims to improve the psychological status of IDPs in the Shekhan camp and to develop cohesion within the project, Raise awareness of the IDPs psychologically, socially and economically to enable them to prevent the problems of life and the daily difficulties they face.

  • This project aims is to be an initiative that will lead to the activation and integration of IDPs in a way that will make them effective partners in building and strengthening social solidarity and social cohesion through social programs and activities social activities and awareness-raising sessions that will reduce tensions caused by feelings of exclusion in order to move forward in a new society with a culture and traditions, the project will continue to build capacity through a series of workshops on project themes, youth activities and events.
  • To support all categories of children, Teenagers, youth, widows, poor families, the elderly, and those with special needs and to strengthen them psychologically, socially, and economically through the courses, activities, and services provided by the organization make a decision.

Livelihood project in Bashiqa (For 3 months) in 2018:

Varies beneficiary from different districts in Bashiqa for the literacy training course, providing training on Beekeeping, and Sewing course, and at the end of the project, the beekeeper’s boxes and Sewing machine distributed to the participants.

Tear Fund/ OFDA

The project of (Psychosocial support) for Yazidi Women in Ba’adre sub-district and Essiyan Camp, (For 3 months) from October, November, and December in 2018. IOM / Cooperazione Italiana allo Sviluppo(AICS).

In coordination with both NGOs Hariwan Organization for Development of Human Rights (HODHR), and Developing Natural Resources (ODNR) in the partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The project aim is to improve the psychological and health status of Yazidi women and girls in both areas; Baa’dre Sub-district and Essian camp, and develop cohesion with the host community.
The project’s objectives were:

  • To improve the psychological status of Yazidi women.
  • Activities; Provided yoga training to train Yazidi women and girls on yoga.
  • Spreading awareness and positive attitude about leisure activities and women’s health in order to improve the health status of women.
  • Activities; Provided food and health sessions for Yazidi women and girls.
  • Enhancing communication and connection among members of the community, both Yazidi IDPs and host community.
  • Activities; Provided leisure activities; such as picnics, planting trees, and food competition with host communities in the areas.
Social Cohesion initiative in Sumel District, With the Partnership of IOM- Founded by (European Union and AWDA AMINA), Implemented in 2020.

Developing youth capacities in volunteer work and post-conflict social cohesion in Sumel, implemented by Hariwan Organization in partnership with IOM, activities include training and participation groups of Youth from the displaced, host community, and refugees, and it forms a cooperative circle through which activities and discussions about conflicts and disputes, racial distinction, community integration, The importance of social cohesion and the exchanging of experiences and information are addressed by presenting the most important issues facing displaced persons and refugees in the host community and vice versa, In addition to strengthening communication between them and engaging and coexistence in society despite the different customs and traditions, and contributing to awareness campaigns to increase community interaction and participation. We provided our activities via online due to the circumstances and difficulties around the world which lives in fear of spreading coronavirus.

The team conducted training on the importance of volunteering in the community, The training was intended to foster a strong community and to increase the concept of cooperation and participation in society between IDPs, refugees, and the host community through volunteer work. Sumel community is suffering from a lack of job opportunities and unemployment, there must be a role for the organizations in activating the capabilities of youth in advancing their abilities, acquiring skills and awareness in order to increase social communication and the safety of dealing with it, volunteering work gives the individual a sense of psychological comfort and the individual’s development of his/her personal skills and communication skills with others and participation in volunteer work gives the volunteer opportunity to develop his/her skills, and special relationship related to communicating with others, especially as it deals with people from culturally, socially, and economically diverse backgrounds which makes it able to deal with a larger segment of personalities and to know closely about the conditions of people and increase unity between members of the same society, and strengthening of social relations and development of a society that push towards cultural enlightenment, intellectual and enhances the positive qualities of persons and support the strengths of personality to exploit the energies of youth, and investing their spare time in matters that provide benefit to them and the society, which it aims to build their capabilities and skills and increase their self-confidence in order to ensure that women and men have appropriate opportunities to become active in Society, and to face any difficulties faced by youth as well. After completing the training, the participants carried out an awareness campaign on COVID-19, and visited some families providing them awareness-raising supplies and preserves their safety, the supplies were (medical masks and gloves) to protect them from infection and help these families from exposure to Coronavirus and help them economically and reduce the responsibility of purchasing these supplies, the aim of this volunteering work was to enhance the sense of belonging to the community and group and to feel the importance of their participation and assistance within the available resources, and the social, educational and health advancement of society, thus the advancement of society as a whole and the improvement of the living environment incubating individuals.         

Project of Biking for Women (Riding for Peace, Freedom, and Rights)

Hariwan, Bishkoreen, and Better world organizations participated in the IOM biking project for women and girls from IDP, refugees, and host communities, the project objectives are to empower women and girls through sports activity, to advocate for the rights of women and girls especially in doing sport and riding a bike, and to strengthen social cohesion among the host, IDPs, and refugee’s communities. The project contains three stages; the first one is to train 100 women and girls on riding bike, the second stage is to hold a marathon event that all 100 trained women and girls are gathered in one place to ride the bike at one time and together, and the third stage is the follow-up activities after the event in which the women and girls continuously been gathered and to ride the bike in a safe and friendly environment. In addition, in all three stages, women and girls are to be involved in PSS and awareness activities.
